How much recycled content can packaging realistically contain?
It varies by material and application. Paper and paperboard can reach very high recycled content, and many boxes are made from fully recycled fiber. Does recycled content packaging need special certification?

Without a certificate, your "recycled content" claim rests only on supplier promises, which weakens your position with retailers and under stricter green-claims rules.
Is recycled content safe for food packaging?
Only if it meets food-contact requirements. Recycled plastics used for food contact must be cleaned to remove potential contaminants — for example, recycled PET for bottles goes through processes approved by regulators such as the US FDA and the EU food-contact framework. Sometimes. Recycled resins can carry slight color casts, odor, or variability in melt flow, which matters for crystal-clear films and precise molding. Recycled paper fiber can be shorter and weaker, which affects strength for heavy loads. Good suppliers blend and screen materials to keep performance consistent, but test early: verify color, strength, and sealing behavior on your actual line before committing to high recycled ratios.
